As stepping stones go, these were very much like stepping stones. Did have a face to face with a Scottish bloke as I crossed. As a Yorkshireman, I wasn't sure whether we were to dual or not. He politely let me by but as the good man I am I did a quick recce to ensure no more of his compatriots lie in wait amongst the bushes. They didn't, all was well, move along

What a beautiful place! perfect for a little walk on your own or with kids. The water is perfect for them to walk safely and splash some water. The whole town is very beautiful and peaceful.

Lovely place to visit. Standing on the stones looking down the river is magical! A popular location for walkers, dog walkers and photographers. Beautiful every season. There is usually an ice cream can in summer months & a play area close by for children. Can be busy in summer so parking is an issue. Worth a visit. Stanhope stepping stones ❤️

Great little place. Especially when the heat is ridiculous as it has been. If you don't use the stepping stones the water is about ankle height (assuming it hasn't rained a lot before hand) low enough to get the pushchair through without soaking everything. My little dog loved it and he hates the beach, so it must be the waves. This used to be a road but thankfully not anymore

Lovely peaceful location. Stones are easy to cross for an adult. Children will need help as the current is strong. Water doesn't appear to be deep
