The White Horse

An excellent stay, would highly recommend for a quiet stay, whether with dog or not. The roaring fire was cosy, as was the room, with nice Butcombe touches. More than reasonable price. We enjoyed every element of our stay! Only thing I would add is a but more hard-standing for the car parking, as the parking can get busy with the pub being popular!

Today we decided to go for a nice autumn walk. We arrived at the pub car park in the morning and noticed the sign saying “Patrons only.” Since we were only booked for lunch, we thought it would be polite to ask permission before heading out on our walk to Kingsley Vale. The staff in the morning were perfectly fine with it. After a two-hour loop, we returned for lunch. The pub was pleasantly decorated, cozy, and welcoming — a young lad was even playing acoustic guitar, which added a nice touch. We were pleasantly surprised by the large selection of non-alcoholic drinks. A waiter showed us to our table and took our order promptly. Then the wait began… We had plenty of time to savour our drinks, and somewhere between the first and second round I caught myself wondering why, in restaurants, it’s the staff who are called waiters — surely it should be the customers. In this place, perhaps patients would be more accurate. After 55 minutes of watching the tables around us receive their starters, mains, and even desserts, we were finally blessed with our meals. I had ordered fish and chips and was quite surprised by the easily countable number of chips — eight, maybe nine if you include the overcooked one. My partner, meanwhile, was presented with what could best be described as a homeopathic slice of roast accompanied by microdosed trimmings. Perhaps this pub is a fusion of English cuisine and Chinese medicine after all. Out of sheer frustration, we asked for the bill and decided to find dessert elsewhere. Damage: £65 for two mains and four drinks (we only ordered the second round because of the wait). A 10% service charge was, of course, included by default.

Stayed here Sun-Wed at the start of November (this week) and my word, a five star service indeed. I was very late booking this on the Sunday, called them and Suzie booked me in and matched the online price I was getting (I was checking to see what latest check in would be as I was travelling from far) Upon arrival Suzie was still on-site and awaited my arrival, a warm greeting and even allowed me to have a pint after the travel even though they could've closed. Not only this, they also asked about breakfast and I mentioned i'd be gone before they opened to which she offered to see if they could make up a bacon bap for me in the morning if I let them know the night before. In all honesty, in terms of customer service this was really top tier. Rooms were clean and the hotel was nice comfy and quiet. (Considering its attached to a pub & restaurant, this was a real surprise) my only niggle is that my room had a bath and no shower, but i'm sure if I wasn't A) so late on booking I could've requested this specifically. and B) there probably wasn't any rooms available with a shower at such short notice... so not really on them to provide this. But just be aware when you book to specify. All in all, I will definitely be back as I work down in Chichester quite often, and I think i've now finally found a spot which has a perfect blend of customer service and quality of stay.

I stayed here and had a fantastic experience. The room was spotless and comfortable, the evening food and drinks were absolutely delicious, and breakfast the next morning was just as impressive. A special shout-out to Sammy, who gave me a warm welcome and looked after me throughout my stay. Friendly service, great atmosphere, and everything impeccably clean — highly recommended!

My husband, our dog and I visited for the first time this weekend. We had a wonderful relaxing time in a beautiful area of England. The staff are all friendly and accommodating. The rooms were clean and comfortable, with little touches like a small bottle of milk for tea. The food was delicious, and the wine menu was great. Best of all, it is truly dog friendly - Bailey will not forget her breakfast sausages in a hurry!

Had the most wonderful couple of days staying here. The accommodation is really good, comfortable beds, very clean and fitted out very well. The food was really excellent both evening meals and breakfasts. Sam and the team made us feel very welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The pub is a very dog friendly place, we felt "underdressed" as we do not have a dog, but we made a few canine friends. For guests staying with dogs, there is l lovely grassed quadrangle for exercising the dogs. The pub is situated in a very rural location, the location is in a dark sky area, and for my hobby of astrophotography, absolutely ideal location. Most definitely will be coming back, hopefully for a few cloud free nights.

The White Horse is a lovely, dog-friendly inn with cheerful staff and comfortable rooms. The restaurant has character and the food is good; our only concern was that service was a little slow but we were not in a hurry. There was good Internet available throughout the premises.

Came dinner with some friends - 4 of us met up at a midway point on a Thursday for dinner and a catch up. From the moment we walked through the door we were met with a warm greeting and smiles! We ordered drinks and sat at the bar before making our way through to the restaurant. We ordered starters and mains with Anya who was very knowledgable and was able to talk through the dishes. We finished out mains around 10pm and were still offered a full menu of desserts despite being the last ones in the restaurant! We never felt rushed and had a most enjoyable evening. Service from Anya was outstanding, she was really lovely and an absolute credit to the White Horse! We will be back soon I’m sure.
