Somewhere between the endless hedgerows and the melancholy beauty of an English November afternoon, we stumbled upon The Bell at Sapperton — the kind of pub that feels less discovered and more remembered. It was raining, of course. The kind of rain that flirts with melancholy but never quite commits — a proper English performance. We’d been winding along Cotswold lanes no wider than a sigh when The Bell at Sapperton appeared, glowing faintly through the drizzle like an invitation to better taste. Inside, all was timber, taxidermy, and the gentle clatter of contentment. The bar gleamed like an altar: Estrella, Goram IPA, Guinness, Henry Weston’s — a line-up that suggested quiet confidence rather than showmanship. The food, however, was where things took a turn for the transcendent. The local mushrooms arrived on toast so thick it might have been carved from the Ark itself, blanketed in cream and woodland perfume. Impeccable. The sort of dish that could make a vegetarian out of a butcher. Sausages and mash crowned in caramelized onion confetti, a dish so honest it could absolve sin. There are pubs that try to charm you, and then there are pubs that simply are — older, wiser, and wholly uninterested in your approval. The Bell is firmly the latter. Often pubs don't get the cooking right for a Sunday lunch and it is easy to feel processed. Quite the oposite. The roast beef was brilliant - tender as well as tasty and our server was enthusiastic, helpful and so attentive. If you like chocolate go for the Brownie pudding - It ouzed! A wonderful experience!! Well done The Bell.

The two nights we spent at The Bell were some of the most memorable of our trip. It’s truly a special place. Warm, welcoming and whimsical, the staff are exceptional, the food is amazing and the room felt like home. All the little touches - the music playing in the room, the ‘wine wall’, the warm atmosphere in the pub and restaurant, the little hints of humour in the signage, all made for a delightful stay. We’ll always remember our 3 days at The Bell.

This is a very cosy pub with lovely big fireplaces and snug seats by the fire. We had the beef and pork roasts, absolutely delicious food, super quick service and very professional staff.

Found this beautifull pub by chance. Although we did not eat there we saw the sunday dinners flying out of the kitchen all looked superb. Staff were very good and attentive.was fantastic to see the horses and riders in the horse park having refreshments.will be back for a meal. Cannot comment on food or rooms as was just a visit for a beer or 2.

Fabulous Sunday lunch with friends today at The Bell. Superb roast beef and all the trimmings served by knowledgeable and attentive staff. One of the most interesting wine lists I’ve seen all at sensible prices for great quality wines across the price spectrum. Definitely worth a visit. I will be back.

The service and location were fabulous, leaving nothing to be desired. The food, however, was rather bland, which was disappointing. I will note that I had a vegetarian dish, and my meat eating companions food looked rather more satisfying, so maybe a place to skip if you are veggie, but definitely worth it if not.

Ten of us on a country walk stopped for refreshments on a hot June day. We were welcomed warmly by Blanca and her husband who made us feel like locals. Food and beer were excellent. Highly recommended
