This place defines some place in the middle of nowhere, but it's worth going to. I've been to quite a few caverns in the last few months and this one is definitely unique. Not only because of the place it's at. The cavern itself is very interesting. The surrounding desert is absolutely beautiful and you get great views as you're walking towards the entrance along the mountainside. Cavern itself is fairly short. The tour is only about an hour and you go down to the end and then back again along the same route. What's nice is that it's extremely well lit inside. Never really have a problem of getting lost or not seeing where you're going. The state park guides are excellent. Ours knows a lot about the area and the history of the cavern with a good sense of humor too. It was a long drive getting there but I'm glad I did it. It was it was worth time I spent.

Amazing experience, this is a must see! William, our tour guide, is extremely knowledgeable and you can tell he really cares about what they are doing in preserving and educating all visitors about the importance of the Mitchell Caverns and the surrounding ecosystem and why it's important. The views inside and outside are breathtaking, this is one of those places you will always remember because you can get up close and personal with nature and see how amazing it is.

My grandson Ricky and I planned this amazing trip for the last 8 months. It's an adventure just getting there. Driving through the beautiful Mojave desert was just breathtaking. Our tour guide, Ranger William, was very informative and knowledgeable. He told us of Native American tribe's that used the Caverns for shelter, rituals, and survival. Once you enter, you will notice the temperature drop and coolness of the Cavern. Ranger William carefully guided us through some of the most beautiful formations in California. You must go online to make your reservations. We will definitely be back.

The tour was great and our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and we learned a lot along with a great sense of humor. Definitely well worth it. Also, bathrooms were nice and clean, which is always a plus after long drive-in.

The tour guide was great. He was very knowledgeable. Loved that he had jokes to go along with all the information he was providing. You need to have reservations in order to go inside the caves. I easily did that online it is $20 per person. You do not need anything, just a bottle of water. They make you leave your backpack and all other belongings in the car. Maybe just pack a snack for the drive.

Mitchell Caverns is truly an amazing natural wonder. I visited about 45 years ago and the vivid images of the caverns stuck with me ever since. I kept meaning to return, and finally had a free weekend day, jumped in the car, and returned. I was absolutely not disappointed, as it was as spectacular as my younger self remembered. Our young state park ranger was enthusiastic, personable, and well informed. The tour lasted just the right amount of time to see everything in plenty of detail without feeling rushed, but not too long to lose interest. Like so many places these days, it's best to have reservations in advance, although we got lucky on a cold day between storms and were able to get on from the standby list (only ones). I highly recommend this very unique and magical place!

Small but interesting caverns with a unique cave. The tour guide sucked -- a kid from the California conservation corps with no geology experience. I wish the state would cede the lands to the feds so blm would take over and interpretive rangers would give tours.
