Horse & Jockey

Two of my friends (gentlemen) called in today, October 2nd, for the first time, and wanted me to write a glowing review on their behalf! They were met with very friendly service from the start, and the food, drinks and puddings were rated 10/10 by both! Steak baguettes, with various trimmings - a particularly delicious gravy to accompany them, followed by two excellent portions of fruit crumble and custard. Accompanied by some nice drinks too! They were extremely impressed, and will definitely be back soon as they live fairly locally, to try out your other dishes. We run Cilcaine Mid Wales Airbnb 15mins from Horse & Jockey. It's our go to restaurant. We have never had a bad meal. Great meal choice with a specials board too. It's our recommendation to our guests that stay with us looking for somewhere to eat.

We went here for dinner (didn’t stay at the hotel) and were really impressed by the customer service, the waitress serving us was incredibly friendly and helpful. Portions were generous, and the pricing was fairly reasonable for what we ordered. There’s also convenient parking nearby, which is free after 6 pm. However, the experience was unfortunately overshadowed by the fact that all of us felt really ill the next day, and dinner here was the only meal we had that day. While the service and portion sizes were great, the aftermath makes it hard for us to recommend or return.

Nice pub and friendly staff but was completely let down by the food, my mum and son ordered the pork but it was so tough they couldn’t even put fork into it!! My son will literally eat ANYTHING no matter how bad but couldn’t even chew this pork, such a shame because everything else was really nice (I had enchiladas and wife had homemade burger) garlic bread was lovely too. I think the server knew how bad the pork was and didn’t even mention whether we enjoyed food or not as a it was pretty much just left on the plate

The bartender was very nice and let me sample the different types of cider to help me choose the one I liked best. Was a good outdoor meeting spot for our group.

Dave & Michaela were so lovely and kind towards us. We had broken down & they went out of their way to look after us while we waited for our recovery. Honestly couldn’t recommend the Horse & Jockey more. Lovely vibe & welcoming staff. Thank you so much x

Nice to see the reviews of this excellent pub were accurate. We were looking for a pub that serves good food, that is also dog friendly. Whilst touring the area, we visited yesterday with our three dogs and were immediately made to feel welcome by the friendly and helpful barmaid, who even offered our dogs a treat each. The food was excellent, with good portions and fair prices. There was a nice lively atmosphere, with very friendly locals, rare these days to be made to feel so welcome upon a first visit. Our dogs enjoyed it too! Next time we are in the area will definitely visit again.

Fantastic food, fantastic service and very good prices. Cosy rooms which are small and old world so can be a little crowded at times. Bar furniture is a little out of keeping with the old world atmosphere and a little uncomfortable, however I must emphasise the food is excellent and the staff are great.
